MEET JOANNA,

I am an abstract painter and educator who lives on the East Coast of Scotland moody. The light and the sea create stunning scenes, bringing ongoing inspiration.

Most of my work is mixed media-based. I can not limit myself to oils, acrylics, inks, pastels or colour pencils. I do enjoy mixing them, layering them up, transforming the artwork. I love using textile mediums, where the thickness of opaque binders is topped up with a thin layer of soft pastel, like late sunlight setting on the masculine sea waves.

Painting brings calmness and ongoing joy; it allows me to cherish the beauty of unique surroundings.

I aim to capture the intensity of texture of natural patterns found between the sea, glens and sky…crafting abstract.

Last winter's walks along East Lothian Beaches inspired the Cobalt Blue Collection.

It is one of my favourite collections with strong contrasts and bold mark-making.
